I’ve been propositioned with upgrading to a 1GB lan. I currently use a 100MB with about 50 stations and a single server. Most of my stations are outdated Celerons and P3’s. My operations does not run intense programs just basic data sharing, web sharing, print sharing and mail exchange. To add to that most of my users are computer illeterate and probably wouldn’t notice a faster lan connections.
What do you think? Is it worth the extra cost of replacing the NICs and switches? Does anyone know what the cost difference is? Would the added transfer rate even be realized with slower (bottlenecked) stations and users?
