2 Floppy drive letters, Want 1 floppy

By FunInAlaska ·
Installed new floppy hard drive, device manager installed hardware and controller, error messg on new floppy drive. Safe mode shows 2 floppy drive A & B, can't delete B. Can anyone help?
When delete hardware and controller under system devices, boot up and reinstalls by itself same drive B. Doesn't show drive b in real time.

Check your settings in the BIOS of the PC. Probably you have configured drive A+B there. You could check this when your pc displays an overview of all configured hardware and then hit 'del' or 'F1' or 'F2' or 'F10' depending on what system you have to get into the bios settings.

I tried that allready, and it would help a new user if you explained what area of the Bios setting has that particular area to adjust.

Not sure if this will help but try to go into the device manager and deleting both drives and reinstalling the one drive and while installing make sure you have it as drive A:

I found out that you should check real-mode and safe mode for both settings. You would be surprised at what is listed in Safemode and not real time.

Start by making sure that the new drive is indeed connected as the A: drive.
(after the twist in the floppy cable)

Next, make sure that the switch in BIOS settings to report floppy drives to Windows is set to report.
Also check the swap drive letters switch.

In the Performance Section of System Properties, on the floppy drive tab, make sure that the detect new floppy drives option is checked.

Delete both the drives and the floppy controller from device manager.

Re-boot, and allow Windows to find the hardware.

This did not help. I checked in Safe mode and the drive and controllers where listed several times. The basic problems was IRQ settings. When Windows installs a new drive or controller it automatically assigns an IRQ. Going to the Control Panel, Devices and adjusting the IRQ settings for no conflicts worked.

go to the cmos setup-Standard cmos setup and try to disable the drive you do not need.save the entries and exit cmos setup.restart the computer and check if this works.

Most computers have a hard drive, CD-RW, and floppy drive. They are listed in COMOS. The problems resided in Safe mode listing multiple drives and controllers which overloaded the IRQ settings. Adjusting those fixed the problems.
