2 XPs on one drive

By derek_furlong ·
back when i was a wee noob and did not know much about computers i had taken my computer to the geek squad for virus and spyware removal. ever since then i have had a dual boot of 2 XPs on one drive. what is the best way to go about getting rid of the second unwanted partition?

Backup all your data including your E-Mail and Address Book and wipe the HDD and install from scratch.

While you can delete a Partition and use something like Partition Magic to resize the drive you'll have to edit the Registry Files which isn't such a good idea unless you know exactly what you are doing, if you don't know exactly what it is you are doing you are going to do much more harm than good so It's easier to just wipe & reinstall the entire OS and software load.

You just erase a line from boot.ini by use Computer's properties, startup and recovery, edit.
Then you have to check if you have got some files or directory to save. You can copy the whole profile from documents and settings to other partition. After that you can format the partition using diskmgmt.msc or use simply format from context menu.

ok i tried to boot to the unwanted XP to see what was there but once i tried i got the following message:
windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. could not read from the selected boot disk. check boot path and disk hardware. please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional info.
any ideas?
