2000 or XP

By Dr. After ·
I have 17 machines that I am about to get licencing for and I would like to know some experienced opinions on which OS I should get for them. They are all PIII 600MHz. Two of them have 20GB HDD while the rest have only 10GB. 10 of them have 256 PC133 Ram, while the rest have only 128. I know they meet the requirements for both, but which would run faster?

The computers you are running with 128mbs should be bumped to 256 at least. 600mhz cpu should be fine as long as they are kept clean and free of clutter/spyware/adware/etc...

I would go with the XP Cals because it's more future proof.

I would go with Win2000, but you should update your H/W, because soon microsoft will not support Win2000.

They would support Windows XP but I suggest upgrading the memory to at least 256MB (pref 512MB).

Microsoft has ended mainstream support for Windows 2000, so I would not go for Win 2000.
