2003 SBS and NT Server

By Don Christner ·
I currently have 2 NT 4.0 servers, one for data and one MS Exchange 5.5. I would like to replace the data server with a new server running Windows 2003 Small Business Server Standard Edition. I would also like to keep my current Exchange server.

Will I be able to use this setup? Will I be able to use the SBS as the pdc and the NT4 server as the bdc? With active directory; can I run both? Any problems that you foresee?

Thank you,
Don

best place to get answers is the Microsoft Small Business Server Communit Newsgroups. Here's a link

Yes, you can keep your desired config. Exchange 5.5 is first a plain vanilla smtp server. The special features of shared calendar and public folders are accessed thru outlook. Outlook will work with SBS and NT 4.0 SP 6a. No sweat! One caviat: MS will eventually stop making security updates for for NT. Once that happens, you and I and everyone else running this config will have to consider updating to stay ahead of the worms, virii and trojans trying to eat our systems.

With your answer and some other research, I think I can do it.

Thanks,
Don
