Is it possible to change a 2003 server from a domain controller to a workgroup server?

Depends on the version of 2003 Server the Enterprise Server can only be used on a Domain but the Small Business Edition can be set to Work-group settings but really it is far better to setup a Domain and add all your other computers to the Domain as that way you can support a greater number of concurrent connections.

correction there: the small business server can not be a workgroup. Its not designed to operate in a workgroup environment.

you can have a Windows 2003 server that is a member server of a domain and make it a workgroup server. The Web server edition is a workgroup edition and can't be joined to a domain. The Enterprise edition, as the first answer says also has to be in a domain environment.
