2.5″ HD in USB Enclosure

by aswat12389 . Updated 16 years, 5 months ago

I recently replaced my laptop’s hard drive (Toshiba MK4025GAS 40GB 4200RPM)with a (Western Digital Scorpio WD1600BEVE 160GB 5400RPM) and I bought a USB enclosure so I could still use my old drive for storage space, to back up files, etc. When I have the Toshiba HD in the laptop and the WD HD in the enclosure things are fine, however when I switch them the WD HD boots and runs fine, but I can’t get the Toshiba HD to work in the enclosure. My computer says it found a USB Mass Storage Device, but then says there was a problem during the hardware installation. When I look in the Device Manager it says there is a USB Mass Storage Device connected to one of the USB ports, but when I open the properties, it says This device cannot start. (Code 10). Once again, there is no problem when I switch the Hard Drives. Does anyone have any ideas to fix this?
