2.5 " SATA Hard Drives - 12 of them!

By derry.manley ·
Can any one point me in the right direct?

I want to make a network attached storage NAS.
I have 12 2.5" SATA 80 GB hdd.
What I'm looking for is a way of connecting all these to a PC via PCI, USB etc...
What I'm having difficulty finding is:
Whats the easiest was to connect these to a PC?
Put a fiber card on a pc and get an enclosue?
Get a lot of 22-pin to ??? to USB converters?

I'm not totally mad, I plan on only connecting about 4!!!
But if that 4 are easy will there are 3 more sets after that!

Hopefully some one might be able to pint me to a web site or something,
Thank you,

Get an enclosure to daisy chain the drives, and a SATA RAID Controller

for the PC, but I'm not sure how you'll interface the external drive enclosure to the PC. I've done this with SCSI drives, but am not too sure in regards to SATA. What you're looking to do is what's known as a "poor man's JBOD", where JBOD stands for "just a bunch of disks" and is a generic term used for external drive subsystems commonly used in storage area networking.

Thanks for that, I was actually hoping to set these up in a raid 0+1 or something similar.
My main question is around connecting the hard drives to the actually pc.
AS in I want to build my own NAS but with 4 or 6 drives.
