    2K Terminal Server Printer Problem

    Locked

    by jodyc ·

I have a terminal server 2k with 9.x clients. These clients have HP1100 printers hooked up to them. What happens when they print to their autocreated printer is the page gets cut off. I have resovled the printing problem by installing the HP1100 Win2k driver. The problem is, the autocreated printer insists on using the HP1100 (MS) driver. I have tried deleting the driver but it keeps reappearing. I looked at a Q article that suggests to make the files read only and / or rename the OEM drivers to the same name as the MS drivers. The only thing with that is the names of the .dll’s etc. dont even remotely match up.

Please help. Must have this resovled before Friday.

JODY I WILL ADMIT TO NOT USING TERMINAL SERVER MYSELF, BUT IT SEEMS THIS IS A FILE PERMISSION OR ADMIN RIGHTS PROBLEM.
MAY BE YOU DO NOT HAVE OWNERSHIP, OR DELETE PERMISSIONS ON THE FILES INVOLVED.
I WOULD TEND TO THINK THAT ANY ADMINISTRATOR W/PROPER PERMISSIONS WOULD BE ABLE TO DO THIS, CHECK YOUR PERMISSION/OWNERSHIP STATIS ON ALL FILES INVOLVED AND ALL **** USERS RIGHTS TO USE THE NEWLY INSTALLED DRIVER FILES ****.
I AM A DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR AND HAVE SEEN
PERMISSIONS AND RIGHTS CAUSE MANY PROBLEMS LIKE THE ONE DESCRIBED.
AGAIN I MUST PROFESS TO NOT HAVING USED TERMINAL SERVER AND HOPE YOU’LL FORGIVE
MY ANSWER IF YOU ALREADY CONSIDERED ALL SUCH ISSUES.

no not a permissions problem. This is a new server and I was logged in as Administrator. I wouldn’t mind however swapping stories. I would like to learn more about database admin. Drop me a line. jodyc@telusplanet.net

The problem is the driver is HP1100 (MS) not HP. If I would have loaded the HP driver on the 2KTS before I logged a client on, the problem wouldn’t have occured. Because I logged the client computer on, it did an auto map of the printer and usedthe Win2k HP 1100 (MS) driver. If I manually switch the driver to HP rather than MS it works fine. (until the client logs off and on again then it resets back to MS ) I need to be able to delete the driver completely and have it never return.
