2nd cdrom not recognized, cdrom mapping

By thor ·
I added a second cdrom to my netware 5 server but it's not accessible.
I also want to map ONE drive letter to the cdrom even though i want to be able to change the cd's. as it is, i have to map a drive letter for each cd that i use in the cdrom.
Can you help? Thanks, Ted

2nd cdrom not recognized, cdrom mapping

Scsi or IDE cdrom. Is it recognized in the system BIOS? If not, then it might be a master slave configuration problem.

Also, run nwconfig at the server console, and see if the CD volume is recognized. place a CD rom in the drive, and type CDROM at the console prompt.

not sure on this one, but type help cdrom at the console prompt to get a list of options.

As for the second part, I change CD roms weekly and faced the same problem. The way I solved it was not elegent, but it works.
Determine what the correct mapping statement for each CD is ... ie \\xxxxx\cdrom3:

decide which drive letter you want for the CD....

ie G is 1, H is 2, and then create a container login script to do your mappings for you

map g:=cdrom1\program\data: ( or some such )
map g:=cdrom2\program\stuff:

the rem out the CD's that are not loaded

map g:=cdrom2#map g:=cdrom3
#map g:=

then I load a line which copies a shortcut to the desktop for the CD=rom

@\\fs-?-?\sys\public\ncopy.exe cdrom.lnk c:\windows\cdroms\desktop

@\\fs-?-?\sys\public\ncopy.exe cdrom2.lnk c:\windows\cdroms\desktop

where each *.lnk file is the executable for the cdrom, ie c:\windows\encarta.exe

hope this helps

thanks for the help/ it's all ide bases harddrives and cdroms and are properly configured as master and slaves. on a cdtower you can set it up to look at the cdroms as a tree, so all cdrom volumes / drives are under one drive letter all the time. Wondering if there was a way to accomplish that with 2 or moe cd's directly in the server. thanks again. ted
