We currently have Windows 2K AD domain controllers (2) at one location.
We have 3 other locations that each have Windows 2003 Standard file servers. The other locations are subnetted and are within 4 miles of the main location.
I need to plan for a total loss of our main location including the loss of both domain controllers.
I understand that I cannot use a Windows 2003 as dc in a windows 2000 ad but the 2003 box would actually be isolated and only be setup to authenticate users as a disaster plan. Would I set the w2003 as a new forest, or as a child of our current forest?
I would need the dns forwarder setup to connect to our cable internet on the windows 2003 box, and we would have a separate T1 line going to our vendor that would just sit in disuse except for testing, or in a real disaster.
I’d really appreciate any ideas on how I could accomplish this – I’ve never done this before and am pretty clueless.
