2nd Hard Drive "caddy" that is External

By shepperdld ·
I need a hard "caddy" that is external and allows me to place laptop and or desktop hard drives in it.
It is needed for recovery data from broken pc's that there are no spares or are not being repaired. I know I can add a drive to a desktop as aslave, but would prefer something that doesn't consume much time.
I have found a product called Apricorn EZ Gig, but I would like more options.

Thanks in advance!

You could use a removable hard drive swap bay. You would then only have to install the necessary drive into the caddy, not into the computer, and the removable drive rack would remain in the machine. Extra "caddys" could be purchased, all to be usedwith a single drive rack.

Here is one such example:

I use a removable drive bay to take data out of the office to serve as an "off-site" backup.

Another consideration would be all th usb-drives and enclosures out there right now, with the newer operating systems they work really slick. Tiger direct has a number of them to look at.

I use the Genica Hot Swap bay. It fits in a standard 5.25" drive bay.

I have dual IDE controllers on my PC, so I have the hot swap bay as the only drive on the secondary IDE channel on my main IDE controller.

To connect to a laptop drive, youwill need an adapter cable. These are part of most 2.5" to 3.5" adapter kits.

Since IDE drives are only detected at boot, you will need to boot up each time you swap drives.

To avoid drive letter confusion, I suggest that you only have 1 harddrive with 1 partition on the system, and move your CD drive(s) up to the higher drive letters. (I use R, W, & V)
