2nd ISP for same domainName if Line fais

By MKaufman ·
Can anybody tell me if using 2 lines from different ISPs can point to the same domain name so if there is a line failure trafic can be routed thrue the
second ISP. (or maybe some how the internet DNS will be updated automatically)

Yes this is a common practice.

Basically you create another DNS server on the 2nd network. (slave or master is totaly up to you and your netwk design)

Whoever your registrar is for your domain name (netsol, register.com, etc) change/add your second DNS server or add a 3rd DNS server to your name server list. Obviously point the new one to the new DNS srvr IP.

ANother option is to have links from two ISPs and run BGP routing protocol. You will have to apply for an AS number for your registered addresses. Then in the event of a link failure all your routes will switch to the only available link. This will mean you can stay with a single domain name, but have multiple links to it. Discuss BGP with your ISP, if they cannot help, find one that will.
