3 & 9 not doing numbers with numlock on

    Locked

I have a bizarre issue here. One of my users last week mentioned the 3 on numpad will randomly start doing Page Down, and yes, the NumLock is on. the rest of the numbers work fine. Today he told me the 9 is now doing it.

He has a Surface Pro 4 w/ Windows 10. Keyboard connected to a dock.

    what currently fixes the issue
    – swapping USB ports
    – restart

    I have done the following:
    – Replaced the keyboard
    – uninstalled all keyboard items in device manager and allow them to install after checking for hardware changes.
    – checked that “InitialKeyboardIndicators” was set to ‘2’ in the registry

Any thoughts as to what is causing this would be helpful as this is driving him insane.

    thank you in advance!

Best guess here is it is something to do with the Dock

This quite often happens when you are using a NB with a external keyboard you unplug the keyboard and the number pad messes up.

Most times it is cured by plugging back in the keyboard and turning off the Num Lock but not always.

Here as you have done the obvious unless it is being removed from the dock and taken elsewhere where they use the Num Lock on the device itself the only thing left is a issue with the docking station.

Not much you can do if that is the case but if they are taking it out and using it elsewhere make sure that before it is removed the Num Lock is off and before they fit it to the dock they have the Num Lock turned off.

I have updated the firmware on both the dock and surface, this even happens when the Kb is plugged into the surface itself.

Yes it will particuarly if the user is sloppy

With how they use the device. They always need to have the Num Lock Turned off before plugging it in or unplugging it.

Here it very much sounds as if they have continuasly unplugged it with the Num Lock on and now the hardware is so screwed up that it will not reset itself.

I’m not sure how you can proceed here and to make things worse even if you replace the entire unit for this user they’ll most likely do it all again as they are not turning the Num Lock off before they plug it in or unplug it from the dock or an external Keyboard.
