3com 3300 & 1100 switch stack

By jsarinana ·
I put this question out over a week ago and did not get much respond so I'm tring again

I have two 3300 switches stacked with a matrix cable, I purchased a 1100 switch and matrix module.
1. I will be installing the matrix module onto my existing 3300 switch and cable unit 1 port to it's self.
2. I will stack the second 3300 and cable unit 2 3300 port to this second 3300
3. I will stack the new 1100 and cable unit 3 port to this 1100.
Question ? my first 3300 is running s.w. ver. 2.00and the second 3300 is running s.w. ver. 2.20
I beleave I should be running the latest s.w. before installing this new 1100 switch, which is not plugged in yet. Can someone give me step-by-step directions ? If I browse to my 3300 under config. I see a s.w. upgrade selection. It brings up a menu asking for Filename & Server Address ? I have downloaded s2s02_68.bin and s2s02_69.bin. But I cannot seem to get to these files on my computer. Help ?
How and where do I get TFTP server ?

You should get all the stack members up to the same firmware before completing the stack.

Visit the 3Com support web site at http://support.3com.com. You'll find the latest firmward for all the switches. The readme files for the updates have instructions on how to do the updates, though I usually used the software that came on the CD with the switch. If you don't know where your CD's are, i beleive that software ca also be downloaded from 3Com.

This is several variants of the TFTP Server
use the one that matches your PC's OS

Place your tftp server on the network with the switch, go through the upgrade instructions. (watch those IP addresses).

Make sure the image file is in the directory of the server.

Any further questions, add comments. I've upgraded more of these damn things than I can count!

I perfer to use Pumpkin tftp server over all the rest. it can be found at: http://www.klever.net/kin/pumpkin.html

Put the s2s02_69.bin in the download directory in pumpkin and set it so everyone can download.
Next go to the 3300 switches and upgrade them by putting the IP address for the Pumpkin TFTP server machine in the Host space, and the s2s02_69.binin for the name.

Just let me know if you need anything else.

hi

Do a search on Cisco's web site for their TFTP server software. Fire it up on a PC or Server and then copy the 2 bin files to the TFTP box and place in the TFTP directory and then point your switch at the relevent machine and directory.
