3Com problems with opening Gateway ports

by eporteni . Updated 22 years, 2 months ago

Okay, see if you can follow this. I have hooked up a 3Com? OfficeConnect? Cable/DSL Gateway – 3c855-us, in a user’s business. I have about 8 PCs connecting through DHCP, and they also access the internet through a verizon DSL connection. Well, thereis a user who needs to connect to a program on a unix box inside the gateway/firewall. I figured I’d set up gateway to allow a connection to the IP, say 192.168.1.250, on port 5050, so that this user can connect over the internet, to the unix box and run her program. Well, nothing works. I’m just wondering if it’s at all possible with this gateway, because wouldn’t the person who needs to connect have to hit the IP given by verizon, then the IP of the gateway, then the IP of the unix box? it’s frustrating, because the online program only allows for one IP address to be entered, but I don’t know which one to put in. None seem to work, but maybe I’m entering them wrong? Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Thanks for the help in the meantime… whatever you can provide.
