3com/win2k/compaq problem

By d_gerner ·
i have a compaq presario 1200 xl111
laptop. i recently upgraded the os to win2k. now the only way the 3com network car will work is if i disable the sound card in bios. the sound and the nic both worked fine before, under 98. the sound will not work at all either, neither with, nor without the nic installed. what should i do?

I noticed that you said - upgraded - the os to win2k. I hate to say this - but - you might want to install Win2K clean with the 3com card in the lap during the install. I have had nightmare issues with "plug and play" NIC cards with Win2K trying to get them to work. This happened to me when I switched from a single port NIC in a box to a dual port NIC. I had to shut off several things in the bios to get it to even see the card - never got it to work that way tho. I fixed it buy reloading the os with the new card in it and boom - it worked. You might keep trying to fix it another way, but a reload clean with it in the notebook will work.

Good luck,
