3D Accellerators

By dannyboy ·
I have a built-in 3d Rage pro AGP 2x with 4MB Wondering what is the best way to go, whether to purchase an entire graphics card or use an accellerator.

Just buy a new card (make sure you have an open AGP slot inside the box). Get yourself a nice GeForce or Radeon card. Cheap ones are under $100, top end ones are about $500.

Separate 3D accelerators are pretty hard to find these days.

I would go ahead and install a full separate card.

Even a low end ATI Radeon PCI card will out-perform your Rage Pro.
You should be able to find a 32 MB PCI card for under $50.
My local Office Depot has retail boxed ATI Radeon 7000 PCI cards for $50.01

You'll probably be better off just purchasing a new card. Be sure to check your slots first to ensure you have an open AGP slot, if not you may have to go with a PCI card. You'll be able to get better performance, a lot better depending on the amount of money you want to spend.
