3dmark 06 CPU test failure!

By Norehca ·
I must apologize for my amount of posts. Im what you call unlucky when it comes to computers.

My previous problem was that a new video card i had gotten (x1950)was not performing as well as it should have been. To see what was wrong i got 3dmark o6 to get a score to compare to others to see if it was just me or not. Well during the CPU test i got a max framerate of 1! Yes, single digit 1!After 20 frames it seems to freeze, staying at the 20th or so frame and not moving. The video test didnt go so well either. With default settings and a res of 1024x768 i got an average fps of about 15.

Im thinking the lack of performance is actually due to my CPU, not my video card. It is very possible that my CPU is damaged. I failed to put any compound on when first building this computer. I got high temps and read up and realized, I FORGOT COMPOUND! Even after i was getting temps of about 130-140 F. I fixed this problem many months later by getting a nice new fan / heat sync. After all of this abuse towards my CPU im not surprised.

I would like to thank everyone for there help, and i must apologize again for all this. Thank you so much, you have all been a HUGE help.

my specs

by Norehca In reply to rig specs?

There no need i know most of my pc specs by heart ( i also have my user guide for specs on my mobo):

Asus K8V SE Deluxe (mobo)
- Support Socket 754 AMD 64 architecture (w/ built-in 1MB L2 cache)
- 800MHZ System Bus
- 3x DDR DIMM sockets (1GB/e 3GB/t)
- 1x AGP 8x/4x; 5x PCI; 1x WiFi slot
- 2x Ultra ATA 133 connectors
- 2x Serial ATA with RAID 0, RAID 1 (Promise RAID controller)
- 1x UltraDMA133 supports 2x HDD
- 2x Serial ATA connectors
- RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 0+1 configurations
- ADI AD1980 SoundMAX 6-channel audio Codec support for S/PDIF out interface
- Marvell Gigabit LAN controller
- 8 USB Total (current 6 USB ports)

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.4GHZ Socket754 (CPU)
160GB 7500RPM Western Digital (HDD)
VisionTek Radeon x1950 Pro XGE AGP 256MB (vid)
400W ATX ULTRA Xconnect (PSU)
currently connected to:
- Motherboard
- LG DVD Multi Recorder (W/Lightscribe)
- 160GB HDD
- Video Card
- 2x 1x12cm fans
- Blue Cathode Light

Note: This was NOT a premade computer and has NOT been built by any certified PC technician. I built this computer myself. All major parts such as CPU, Mobo, PSU, were bought together. I have about 3 years experience in building computers and have built over 6 computers in the past year or so. Since its original configuration, i have installed a new CPU Fan / Heat Sync, DVD Drive, Fan, and Video Card, and the 3.5" Floppy drive has been taken out for lack of needed use. The BIOS has been flashed twice.

Note: I do have a Lexan (bullet proof glass) side panel i have cut out that attaches to the side from 4 strong magnets at each corner not shown in the picture. So there is good airflow.

If your video card

by w2ktechman In reply to 3dmark 06 CPU test failur ...

has a processor, all video processing commands will be forwarded to it, not to your main CPU.

This would re-suggest that your video card is bad, or that the SW used does not work on that card.

he might be right

swap out the new card for 1 that is know to work. then retry the benchmark. if it works then id send it back.
