4 PCs all XP cannot all see each other?

By millhouselives ·
Hi,

I have a small network. 4 computers(3 desktop, 1 laptop)I will call the computers a b and c. the laptop will be d. All are connected via CAT5 to a Linksys router. Router is connected to a cable Internet connection. All computers can browse Internet. All are using dynamic IP addressing. All have XP firewall turned off! All have Norton with firewall turned off! Computers A and D are XP pro. Computers B and C are XP home. All have file and print sharing installed. Now here is the problem. Computer A see computers B,C, and D. Computer B see Computer A & C only. Computer C see A & D, but not B. Computer D sees A & C only, but not B. Bottom line is I need A,C, and D to see Computer B because they is a common folder on that computer that all the other computers need to access on a daily basis.

Thank you for any help.

Try uninstalling networking on computers B,C,and D. Then run the Network Setup Wizard on computer A (making the floppy disk to install networking on the other computers). If the laptop has no floppy drive, burn to CD. Then run the floppy (CD) on computers B, C, and D.

If you still have trouble, repost.

ctrservices thank you for your response, but your method would have involved a lot of extra work that clinet would not be expected to pay for.

We are using DHCP and would rather not use static IP.

Setup users on all PC's, go to control panel user accounts and change to users must press CTRL+ALT+DEL to logon. Give access to all users created to Share folder.

Bobsta, thank you for your post, but this is not an option for us at this time.

silly questions probably -
all are in the same group?
the folder on B is shared?
why not have xp pro on all? - think small upgrade charge if u do that

Some differences between Pro and Home are networking; domain membership/group policy - this could be cause of probs. 'Fraid I have never used Home so can't elaborate - just have read some techie group discussion on it in past.

Alternative solution - As all can see A, and presumably not important for the rest to see each other, why not put shared folder on there?!

Noggin the nerd, thank you for your answer, folder on b is shared, owner does not want to spend money to upgrade this time. shared folder needs to stay on computer B for business reasons.

You need to set up user accounts for users A,C and D on computer B and share the folder on B.
