40 Gig hard drive but only 2 Gig shows

By ciojad ·
Help! I have a Seagate 40 hard drive, it had windows 2000 on it and that crashed, I had to format C it and since I didn't like 2000 I put 98 Second E. on it. Now it only says that I have 2 gigs and half is eaten up with all the windows bloatware I have on it. How do I get the other 38 gigs back.
Thanks

did you fdisk before you installed 98?
sounds like you may have fdisk without
large disk support. to avoid reinstalling 98
I would boot with a 98 boot disk run fdisk
with large support (just reply y when it
asks) and add and format another
partition. also did you delete the w2k
partition? it would show up in fdisk as
other if not than delete all partitions and
start over with just 1

I'll assume you did FDISK to view the drive parameters and removed the non-dos partition and set the drive to the FULL capacity after you formated, if not please verify that FDISK recognizes the FULL drivve capacity.

Now that that is out of the way, does your MotherBoard chipset support the full size of the drive,(IE: not limited to the 32 gig thing)? If it does you may want to visit Seagates' web site and download thier disk utility to verify the drive tests OK and use Seagate's Disk Utility to set it up in your system's CMOS.
Hope this helps ..... H

oops, forgot to ask, when you formatted the drive did you only format the Win9x side if you had a Multi-Boot on the drive ? You may still have a Win2K partition. Good Luck ... H
