43 Drivers Not Available

By kcav ·
I am running Windows 2000 v5.0 SP 4

I entered Microsoft Management Console | Computer Management | System Information | Software Environment | Drivers, and found 43 drivers listed as ?Not Available?.

Does this mean they are available on the Windows Installation disk but have not been copied to my hard drive? Or does it mean something else?

I'm pretty sure that the 43 drivers referred to are "standard" device drivers that Windows installs upon setup, but only loads when the appropriate hardware is present.

Windows 2000 and XP load a large number of network device and storage controllers when they install. The drivers are left in place as they take up very little disk space.

Do you have a system or hardware problem that has caused you to look around?

If so, please post a new question with your specific problem, and we can provide advice as to how to deal with that problem.
