48 Bit LBA

By okeedoky ·
Does anyone know of a good web site that will explain in detail 48 Bit LBA? I know that it allows the recognition of hdd's over 137 GB and that a mbd BIOS update is required for support but I am looking for much more detail.

The best resource I found for such questions is:
http://www.tomshardware.com/
You might find your answer there. I know there is a current article called IDE training on the front page. In Part one of the article it explains LBA. I'm not sure how indept it goes into 48 bit though.

I found this article on Western Digitals web site. It gives a very good explination of 48 bit LBA and the differences between 48 bit and 28 bit LBA. Here is the link.
