60 javaw.exe processes running!!! Is this a virus?

By curtis.barney ·
I opened my task manager the other day and found 120 processes running. About 90 of which were javaw.exe. I have an educational program which uses it to start scheduled tasks at startup. I saw that large amount and immediately rebooted, and it went away. This morning I looked again and and a lot of them are back. Anyone seen this before? Did I mention this is on my server? Server 2003 to be exact.

This is a Jave program...

javaw.exe is a process by Sun Microsystems which gives functionality to this Internet protocol. Often works together with Internet Explorer. This program is a non-essential system process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

okay. I am glad to here that it is not malicious. Does it matter that the server is not on the Net? And how do I know if it is causing problems enough to justify terminating it? Thanks for your help!
