600 Second Logoff Delay

by alma.alvarez . Updated 17 years, 2 months ago

In an attempt to update an old image of our Dell D630s, I loaded all of the Windows updates at one time (because I’m smart like that) and now have an exactly 10 minute log off time and the only window on the screen says, “Please wait…Running Logoff Scripts.” The only event log entries that happen around the time I’m logging off is an Informational type, Event ID of 0, and the Source is “NMIndexingService”. Most times that I’ve tried to logoff have yielded no errors or events in the logs, but this is the only event that has happened even remotely close to the various logoff times. We run Windows XP professional.

A few other posts online mentioned that there was a Logoff script in the registry to edit (this is the first time I’ve come across this issue in over a year here in this environment, so I’m not confident that I have to edit a registry key). I’ve been searching for a couple days and still have this issue but am looking to see if anyone knows of the specific Update that would have been implemented between January and now that would cause this delay. I am trying to keep from having to individually add Updates, so any insight would be most helpful. This is my first post so if I omitted any pertinent data, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
