8 gb Memory vanished from 40gigs

In my computer i am having p3 intel motherboard and i am using seagate 40 gb harddrive but i can't get 40 gb whole detected it only detects around 32, i tried some sofwares but not working out is there any other idea except bios pgradation which may work...
have four partition
c:6.**gb
d:12.**gb
e:8.**gb
fourth linux :2.5gb
swap space:1.5gb

With the 40 GIG Seagate's there is a jumper that limits the drive size to 32 GIG sounds as if that has been enabled.

While the Drive may be rated at 40 GIG you will get slightly less when you format it up and the more partitions that you have on it the less space you will have available for data storage but it sounds as if you have set the jumper to 32 GIG limit.

You'll have to reset the jumpers on the HDD you have it limited to 32 GIG with one jumper.
