Just a thought....Is Browsing...sharing enabled on that...machine....

(Right Click Network Neighbourbood...
..click Properties...
Then Click the File/Print Sharing Button...
and see if the sharing check box is ticked )

Maybe that helps...

sounds like tcpip protocol is missing/broken...try uninstalling and reinstalling tcpip on affected machine(s)? ping is part of tcpip...

hi,
probable reason if it want talk to each other write down "ping localhost -t" in command prompt on yr each machine if it replys continuous means yr nic is ok.
other probable reasone is :

check if u have configure yr workgrop with same "Class of Network" means if u have one machine configured with ipaddress with "10.0.0.1" and another with "10.0.1.1" it wont talk each other or more descriptive u have to configure yr all 5 machine with same "Class" means "10.0.0.xxx" where "10.0.0" is yr "NetworkAddress" and "xxx" is yr "HostAddress" remember that u have to configure same Subnet mask also wiz if yr machine having "10.0.0.1" ipaddress and subnet mask is "255.0.0.0" then all yr other 4 machines have to have subnet mask as "255.0.0.0" ....
---- tried it out and get back to me "hemant_goswami@indiatimes.com" if u have any issue ------

Hi

It looks like a corrupted TCP/IP..secondly do you have any other protocol installed besides TCP/IP like netbeui..this will result in viewing the machines but not pinging as it is part if TCP/IP protocol suite....Just unistall and reinstall the TCP/IP and it should solve your problem
