A disk read error has occured. Press CTRL ALT DEL to restart….HELP?

by coreyx64 . Updated 16 years, 11 months ago

ok i have an older HP laptop…a compaq nc6000 series. recently the HDD went out so i purchased a new one. i plug in the hard drive, retaining the jumper setting, but then i realized my CD drive stopped working also.

I put the new HDD in another computer and installed windows to it using that computer. once i came to a booted desktop, i shut it down and put the hard drive back in my laptop.

i turned the laptop on, and it says “A disk read error has occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.” i do so several times, but to no avail.

How do i get this thing to boot? or do i absolutely need to get another CD drive to install windows using my laptop???

Thanks in advance.

the HDD is a WD Scorpio Blue 80GB EIDE Drive. Remember its an older laptop so it doensnt have SATA.
