Fun first:
One of our TR members recently posted some excellent pictures and comments from a trip he made to the USA.

That post got me started looking for a safe, secure and inexpensive or free way to do something similar.
After spending some time uploading roughly 175 pictures to www.photobucket.com I discovered that I need to ?go pro? to create a long slideshow.
A friend suggested that I try www.slide.com. I found that I could create a slide show of any size and use the pictures already uploaded to photobucket if I entered my photobucket password. I decided to try it and changed my photobucket pw when I was done.
Sharing a slideshow at slide.com requires that you have your own site or one of several free online sites where you can paste ?slide’s? generated code.
I’ve had such a site for several months and I created a single page for the slideshow located here: http://tinyurl.com/2yqf48
Before someone accuses me of trying to drive traffic there let me say that I don’t care about traffic for that website and won’t gain or lose anything (besides allotted bandwidth) if 1 or 10,000 people view it.
I am simply trying to share pictures that are interesting and/or humorous to me. If you have about 6 minutes or so you may want to take a look.
One of the things I don’t like about ?slide’s? slideshow is that it doesn’t properly display animated gifs. There is one picture, a dust-devil on the planet Mars, that remains stationary even while pausing the slideshow.
I’ve also tried Picasa but was unhappy with it for various reasons although I may use some of Picasa’s features.
That brings me to the questions.
Does anyone have experience with sites or software that allow you to use animated gifs in slideshows?
What is the best slideshow or thumbnail generating software? Why? Does it generate code usable on a website?
What do you consider to be the best site or method to share a large number of photos,(1000+)?
Edited for format and clarity.
