Just when I thought I’ve seen everything..I work with a network 40 workstations; 4 servers. The workstations are spread out over three adjacent buildings–connected via switches/hubs.
9 of the workstations(4-XP;2-Win2k;1-Win98; 1-WIn95; 1-Win NT) are in the manufacturing building. Yesterday, I attempted to replace an old hub with a simple 16 port Netgear switch. As soon as I put the new switch in place–all of the stations lost contact with the network/servers. Couldn’t ping, couldn’t do anything.
The only fix–put everything back the way it was?!?! So that’s problem one. WHY?
But the bigger problem now. One of the stations-the Win 95 station-which runs a critical mfg. process–can’t see the server and one share it needs to connect to for access to mfg. data. The computer can ping the server. It can ping all of the servers and the router–and it can see and connect to the other servers. But it cannot connect to this one, critical server.
Nothing changed-the original hub is back in place–all systems can connect and see all servers–except this one. And gain, it can see all of the servers EXCEPT the one it needs–and it can ping the missing server.
What am I missing? This is driving me totally crazy–Of course we’ve rebooted the server, workstations, router, hubs, etc.. to no avail.
