In the interest of spreading the word on business-focused P2P, I wanted to let everyone know about a product that one of our early users termed a ‘Napster for spreadsheets’.
BadBlue just introduced a business-oriented peer-to-peer package. It takes a unique approach: it turns each machine into a tiny, search-enabled web server.
The new version (introduced yesterday) serves live spreadsheet data over the web (screen shot: http://www.badblue.com/helpxls.htm#shot ). A typical scenario is
a salesman entering order data on his wireless laptop while the central office
is able to grab the live data for ‘on the fly’ rollup.
We think this approach reframes the debate about the applicability of peer-to-peer architectures to business.
