man, is that ever a red flag that you want to do that.
do you feel like telling more? seems to me solution will vary depending on os…
how are you handling this now? what are your ideas about when you would schedule a reboot.
and, i can’t help it: ‘Why?’
i gotta just say, i would be looking to fix resource leak or whatever was causing me to need to reboot periodically. imh experience, is always fixable eventually…but i do know Nothing! NOTHInnnNG!

just to clarify, i’m talking about rebooting desktops, not servers. i have the end users leave their machines on at night so sus will push out and install critical updates. well, you never know when you are going to get an update(s) that requires a reboot. so machines are being left on for days and sometimes weeks without a reboot. this is causing problems with the computer browser service. i can’t rely on users to reboot because, let?s face it, they don’t really care. so i wanted a way to schedule periodic reboots, similar to the way sus schedules “critical update” installs.

package scripting is an possible answer though I don’t know of anyone who has one. Might ask Joe Moore.

And I thought I had a market on the terminally dead and illiterate end users. Do you need to change their “Depends” too?

if changing “depends” had anything to do with a computer, i would have to do it!

Sounds like here. I was told I was hired as a Network manager and after I started I was told I was responsible for anything with buttons??
Telephones, Faxes, printers, paging system, calulators, you probably have my old boss. :>

my boss isn’t the problem; the users just don’t know anything about computers, not even basic stuff. ok here’s an example, once there was a lady in training class, she was holding her mouse in her hand and pointing it at the monitor like a TV remote control, saying “mine doesn’t work”.

havent tried it myself, but have you thought about copying the tsshutdn.exe from a windows 2000 or 2003 server to the PC’s?
If it works, set up a task schedule on the PCs to shut them down each night. As for making it a policy, you should be able to reboot 2k/xp, but the exact methods escape this weary mind.

Create a batch file using the Shutdown command with the /r swithc. Then use AT command to schedule the job for each computer. Not pretty but it works.
