A series of unfortunate errors.

By RocketElf ·
Hello, fellow techs,

I have a PC which is generating an error I have never seen, and it springs up at almost any time, even when the PC is inactive/idle.

The PC:
Dell OptiPlex GX 150. A11 BIOS (Latest)
Windows 2000 Professional w/ SP4
CompUSA USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure
w/ 320GB Western Digital Hard Drive

Error:
Windows - Delayed Write Failed

Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\HarddiskVolume4\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your company hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

This is a PC which is linked to another two by a 4-port hub. I can't seem to find any answers. Can anyone give me a hand?

You are getting a Write Failure to one of your HDD's

This most often comes about when the HDD Controller is beginning to go bad or the HDD is on it's way out.

Download a copy of the Drive Makers Testing Utility and test the Drive. If it fails in the original system remove it from there and test it in another system. If it fails again it's the HDD that's at fault and if it passes the second test in a different computer it's the HDD Controller that's at fault and needs attention.
