A user-name and password are being requested by http://192.168.1.1. The site says: “Before configuring the Gateway, a User Name / Password is required. If you do not know the User Name / Password please refer to the User manual for fu?”

My Question is how do I access my ISP’s Gateway when W7 authentication blocks me. The Authentication required Dialog Box appears and I enter my user name & password that I setup when I was using WXP SP3, now this W7 feature dialog box blocks me?

You are using the username and password for the router, yes?

      This:
“”Before configuring the Gateway, a User Name / Password is required. If you do not know the User Name / Password please refer to the User manual for fu?””

Sounds like your router, not Windows, asking for the password. Is it saying that the password/username is wrong?

After entering username & password the dialog box, the dialog box just resets it self ask for username & password again?

Are you using a browser, or the Linksys software?

          by seanferd ·

          In reply to NO

I would highly suggest just using a browser. In fact, you don’t need the Linksys software installed on the computer at all.

If you use the browser to connect directly to the router’s IP address, you should be communicating directly with the router’s web interface. This way, you can possibly avoid any issues stemming from Windows having a dialog box problem. (The software may not run properly on 7 at all, or may require Admin privileges to do so.)

bear in mind that the username and password are Case Sensitive – you must enter them exactly as they were first set in the router.

Failing all this, you can reset everything and create a new username/password. Refer to the documentation for your exact model and firmware revision before doing so.

192.168.1.1 is not likely to be your ISP’s gateway. Sounds more like a default setting on a home users router.
