    About data centers

    by DanielM1280 ·

Hey everyone, I’m Daniel from Ethiopia. I’m curious about the types of data centers or servers that major global companies like YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok use. Are the data centers these big companies use functionally the same as commercial options or do they have unique features?
Can a commercial data center be used for the same purposes as those global data centers, or are there important differences in operation or capability? Would love to hear from anyone with expertise in this area—thanks so much! 😊

Name of such a commercial data center/cloud provider removed by moderator.

A data center is just hardware. The functionality depends on the software/.

Companies like Bytedance (TikTok), Google (Youtube, Search, Maps), Meta (Facebook, Whatsapp), Amazon (shop) store their own data and run their own software on their own hardware.

Cloud service providers, like Google (Drive, Workspace), Microsoft (Azure), Amazon (AWS) let you pay for using their hardware to store your own data and run your own software. Like any ISP (Internet Servide Provider) lets you run your site.
