I can't help you decide

by Dr Dij In reply to About SQA as a Career ?

whether you want to be a software developer, tester, dba, etc;
but there's lots of info out there on software testing.

Just remember, you need to specialize (but know something about related occupations) and you can't do everything.

you can download the sitescope, also TD and LR CBT (computer based training courses) for their products for free from download.mercury.com (now an HP division)

probably want a broadband connection, each is 160 megs. also run their demos, shows on screen what products look like.

This will give you a good idea of what some slick software for testing; monitoring networks, etc. does.

I'm reading this book, not because I'm doing QA but because I want to know how to do better debugging of code I'm writing:
Debugging Microsoft .NET 2.0 Applications
Add to Bookshelf folders
Purchase a printed copy of this book
Visit Companion Web Site
by John Robbins
Microsoft Press ? 2007 (464 pages)
ISBN:0735622027

Presenting hands-on, practical advice for working developers on how to use the debugging, testing, and tuning features in Visual Studio 2005, this guide also features solutions to common, real-world development problems

To do software QA then i'm sure it would help to know the basics of the language you're debugging of course, even tho modern tools almost make this not needed. You should also be aware of version control software. And be willing to do more than just automated tests to recreate bugs.

here are some books you can read:
