Accesing coputers within a network

By mmacsuta ·
Hi there,

I have a network of four computeres ( A, B, C and D)
- A and C have Windows XP
- B and D have Linux Fedora
The computer A is the one who enables other three computeres acces through interenet. I am able to connect through interenet with computer A and B but not with comouteres C and D. I can not ping computer A also from other computers and not even from computer A. I tried the IP address and also 127.0.0.1. I have 2 network cards on computere A: one enable internet sharing and one is local. I have a wirless modem Belkin.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you.

Magda

For any Nix computers to interact with a Windows computer you need Samba Installed and configured.

With FC 5 this is an option on the install and it will auto configure if you allow it to or you can manually configure. If you don't already have Samba installed you should be able to pick it up from the FC install CD's or download a Samba RPM package on one of the Windows Computers and install it on the Nix computers by transporting it with a Flash Drive or burning a copy to CD which ever you have currently available.

A how to about Samba is available here

The download site for Samba for FC is here and covers both FC4 & 5 so you should be able to download the version that is correct for your needs

the following link is also quite useful as it explains the differences between Nix & Windows

It would also be a good idea to join a Linux User Group in your area and you'll be able to find one close to where you live here
