Access 8.0 repair

By wessir ·
Unfortunately our network has been failing lately, taking Access with it. After restoring the network connections I find Access has been corrupted, when attempting to repair using tools:database utilities:repair database the message "XXX is not a valid index, check the tabledef object..." The database window cannot be displayed although the forms and reports continue to function. Even though the data is still there I can't recover the tables and must restore from a backup. Is there some other way to get the data? I have tried importing it from another Access database but I get the same message.

Indexes are recreated during the Compact function. Open the database, click on Tools, Database Utilities, Repair and Compact database. That should take care of the problem.

Restore from backup is your best option. Aside from that, as you are experiencing, repair / compact will not clean up your problems. However, if your forms and tables still function, then they are accessing the data, and we can assume it is still there. Try 2 things: (1) attempt to link to the tables from another mdb file and use a SELECT * INTO newtablename FROM linktablename. or (2) Using the corrupt mdb file, create a SELECT * FROM badtablename, and if all the data displays, use ctrl+Ato select all records, open a spreadsheet, and paste it in. The second choice can take a very long time, but you will have the data back then get to work putting it back into access. Good Luck

Although forms still work, any attempts at linking fail. Good try anyway.
