Access Anywhere

I have a Window Enterprise 2003 Server that I want to access from anywhere, now I know with Exchange Server I had access anywhere, but I only setup up with my email a while back and never attempted to make files accessible from anywhere. So I was wondering if there was a way to access my enterprise server from anywhere without paying for a service. Because I do believe there is a way to setup access anywhere just haven’t found a solution for it yet.
