Putty is a good, telnet / ssh client.

For you to access the router via ssh, you need to change the transport type on your vty lines to ssh.

Commands would depend on your IOS version.

clients that support SSH

You should be able just to use a client that supports SSH. SecureCRT is the feature rich on but costs 100 bucks. Putty is a free one that works well. Once you have a client you should just be able to select the type of that you are using SSH choose that. Hope that helps

SSH to router

by rob In reply to clients that support SSH

The router will need an IP address and then you need to set the following;

transport input telnet ssh

That command enables both telnet and ssh logins. You were correct in setting up the domain name and generating the keys. You do have IP addresses setup for the interfaces correct? Once that is done you can connect to the router via ssh in Linux or use putty
