access denied to security settings

By sach_shin2001 ·
Can anybody help me with my home pc having windows 2000 pro?The problem is :

One day I renamed my "administrator" account to some new account - somewhere I read that it provides better security. Now I login with that account name.

But now, whenI run GPEDIT.EXE I am not getting access to Security settings and Local polices under windows settings.

I want to have full access to my policies. But no access even thaugh I am the administrator of the machine. Can anybody help me?

Not sure if I can get you back in on the current machine, but for future reference, when you set up a system create an account in a special user name and give it full administrator authority and a strong password, then use this only as an access point when you have trouble.

I suspect you may have inadvertently caused a corruption of basic security policies.

See if you can create a new account and give it administrator level access (try giving it a name of administrator), or try renaming your account back to administrator.

If it is on a network or you can plug in another as a peer-to-peer; see if you can get remote access and set up accounts or make changes that way.
