Access Denied:Cluster SQL Share

By caestelle ·
Ok?so here is my question:
I have a clustered SQL environment with two servers, we will call SQL1 and SQL2. I have an application server(lets call it APPserver1) that is currently using a SQL instance running on SQL1, that uses a UNC path to the SQL backup folder that is shared, to backup and zip the SQL database. Since this is a clustered environment, the share is setup as a resource in the cluster?.so that it has a universal path no matter which SQL server it is currently running on.
Example of share path with in cluster:

This worked fine until two days ago, when we started getting an access denied from a portion of the application that is running as the System user and attempting to access that directory. As a work around, we have changed the UNC path to use the SQL server that the instance is currently running on and this seems to work.
Example of or workaround share path:

So the problem is that if for whatever reason the instance needed to fail over to SQL2, the automated backup feature the software uses will fail.

Anyone know what could be causing this??

Thanks for your help!!
