Access denies - er - access

By Matt H ·
I have recently had to reformat my C drive and reinstall Windows 95, Office 2000 et al, and since then can't get into my hardware database. Which is - and has always been on drive D. For some reason it asks for a password and on providing the sameproduces the response - "Not a valid password or account". Oh yes it is! Is there a registry entry that's been lost or is it something else. I had to re-install Access a month or so ago, and hd no real problems getting in. I've tried password recovery tools that told me nothing I didn't already know, and Accent Office Recovery Tool (from www.officerecovery.com) which didn't do owt. Oh what, Oh what can I do? Despair is setting in fast and I really don't want to have to re-enter over 1000 entries that have already taken 2 months work.

Can anyone help?

Matt, It sounds as though you have already done just about everything I can think of to "open" the existing .mdb file on the D drive. Will the D drive app alloy you to "import" Tables into a new unprotected database where you could use update and/or append queries to save previous work?

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and was your old app always running within youur current "Workgroup where security passwords are stored?

It sounds like you lost your system.mdw file (Database workgroup) when you reformatted the C drive. The default location for this file is in C:\windows\system (I think).

I would suggest that you create a new user group on the using the Workgroup Administrator tool. You will find a shortcut to it inthe Office directory. Once you have created the user group, you can join the group using the same tool.
