Access ftp with windows EP media Center

I am unable to access any ftp sites with my new computer running windows xp media center. I have turned off all firewalls and security, added the ftp address to the allow list and still am unable to access. I keep getting an error message “FTP folder error” Windos cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.
I was able to ping it from this computer.
I am able to access the same ftp site from any other computer, so the problem is on my computer with the settings somehow not allowing me to reach it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
