Access is denied

By j.adeyemi_offor ·
Access is denied to create a folder in the Home directory for users. I cann access the Home folder and browse the content but when I create a new user the Home directory is not created. It give Access denied error and ask that it should be created manaualy since it could not be created during the account creation.

What could be wrong. I have checked the permission to no avail.

Can anyone HELP?

What permissions does your account have on the top folder?

Are those permissions being inherited by sub-folders?

Which server OS are we discussing?

Pointing to the right direction

To answer the questions above:

The account has Administrators permission (Full Control); Everyone (Read)

Not inherited. I have used effective permission to check and the username administrator does not have a write permission.

I have Windows 2003 installed

Verify that the HOME folder is OWNED by the Administrators group or the person who is trying to create folders on it.

The HOME folder is owned by the Administrators. The Root folder has the whole permision on the HOME and beyond yet at the level of HOME the administrator does not have a write right. Even when I add Administrator to the group with Full Control. Effective permission stil show the administrator as not having the write right.

share permissions set to everyone read only

by redboy33 In reply to Access is denied

change the share permission on the root folder where you hold all of your home folders. i.e. \\domainserver\home folder\users

in the above example check to make sure the Everyone group (or Authenticated Users if your company is freakishly secure) has change and read SHARE permission in the HOME folder.

by ntn_gawali In reply to Access is denied

first of all go to cmd prompt.
then go to the folder which u have to remove the restriction.
command is:
CACLS filename /G /W
above command for giving write permission
instead of /W u can use /R,/X
