    Locked

    by brian ·

Has anyone ever seen a database go into read only.It happens occansionly. The error message I get is:

    The database ‘mailings2000’is read only.

You won’t be able to save changes made to data or object definitions in this database.

I checkedthe permissions and they look ok.I looked on technet and could not find anything.Any help would be appreciated.

I know that folder security permissions can cause this. If your account has Read only permissions to the folder the .MDB is in but you have write/change/FC permission to the .MDB, you will get this Read Only message. The folder Read permission is more restrictive than the individual file permissions your account has. Therefore, the .MDB is opened in Read Only mode.
Make sure your security permissions give you a minimum of read/write on the folder.

      Hope this helps.

Check under the file properties and make sure the ‘read only’ box is not checked.

      Good luck.

If this only happens occasionally, then it is probably because another user is sitting on a record, or page – which could be several records, in edit mode. Make sure that when a user is editing records that the recordset only goes into edit mode during the actual save process, which should only take a second, and then immediately the update command is called. If not, other users who try to edit a record on the same page will get this error.
