how to access my inaccessble files and folders after formatting due to users password of the old operating system

i'm confused

if you reformatted, there shouldn't be any other passwords other than the ones you have just created...am i wrong in that assumtion?

We're going to need more information here. What Operating System did you format over, and what did you install? It sounds like you're basically looking for an "unformat" command?

It sounds like you will have to take ownership of the files

If you backed them up & then tried to open them & it says access denied, then the previous permissions were set exclusive to the account they originally belonged to.

Go to the security tab & select advanced....click the Owner tab...select the account you want to have ownership....check the checkbox to apply to subfolders & files.

That should do it for you.
