Accessing Domains through VPN

By joshg ·
We have 7 NT domains connected via frame connections. We have two users that belong to Domain2 that also work at a remote site that would like to gain access to their parent domain. We have installed 256k DSL connection to the Internet for that remote site. The VPN server is part of Domain1 and they would like access to Domain2. Internet access for Domain2 is provided through Domain1. The two users in Domain2 are able to access resources Domain1. Currently if a user runs VPN into Domain1 they can only see that domain in Net Neighborhood. How can VPN be configured to display all domains available? The workstations will be 98 and 2000. WINS is setup in each domain so all domains are visible from each domain. Two way trusts are established between each domain. The configuration works fine for the Frame connected sites, so I don't think it is a permission or router issue.

The VPN server is set to allow the user to access the entire domain. Is this the problem or a limitation of MS VPN Services?

1. These users should have netbeui installed, and the vpn should be set up to allow this protocol.

2. In the LMHOSTS file for each user (located in \windows or, on NT, in \winnt\system32\drivers\etc), create an entry for each domain, pointing at the domain controller, and including both the #PRE and #DOM: tags.

Good luck.

Netbeui wasn't necessary, I loaded the domain controllers they needed to access into the LMHosts. That worked fine.
