Accessing Home page from outside through

By dmoore ·
I have a proxy machine that is setup to handle all our web access and etc.

The proxy machine has two network cards (one card has ainternal private IP and the other one has an external class C ip address) We are able to get out on the web throughthe proxy... mail is comining in correctly to our Exhcnage server. We have a seperate Internet machine that host our home page. At one point everthing was working until I had to redo the Proxy machine becuase of some conflicts with 3rd party software effecting the Proxy apps.

Now that being said...here is the problem. I can't or no one can access our home page. When I try to ping from Mindspring or Earthlink account...it times out. Is the IIS on the Proxy need to be pointing to the Internet machine that host the wwwroot directory? Does anyone has a clue why everhting work but the homepage. Again all this was fine until I reformated and resinstalled the Proxy. I think i miss a step somewhere.

assumming that your servers are in the same domain and that your bridge (on your proxy) NIC configuration is correct, i would start by checking the ports you sites run on and verify that when you reinstalled proxy it didn't close them due to some default install settings. if your proxy requires a proxy client, reinstall the sebservers proxy client. check you DNS and WINS (if you use Microsoft) configurations for the same reasons. not to insult your intelligence, but check your permissions as well as the 'autodetect' proxy checkbox.

Go to Web proxy in the MMC and right click to get properties>Publishing tab. Be sure that Enable web publishing is checked and select the "send to another web server" is selected. Type in the correct UNC path to the directory of your home page.

I would bet on no reverse proxy to allow access to your web server. That means see answer 2 above. Once you can get to the webserver than you can set up the website.
there is a couple of ip and dns issues as well. Lets start with the reverse proxy...
