Accessing W2K AD Usrs and Comp fm Win XP

By fshiflet ·
How can I access the Windows 2000 Advanced Server Domain Controller Active Directory Users and Computers remotely from a Windows XP computer. The Windows 2000 Resource kit will not allow the access.

Hi,
This covered in the technet article at the following url

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304718

(remove any spaces) basically you need to install the admin pack from 2003 server, download details are provided. Something to bear in mind, and which caused some concern and a fair bit of embarresment to one of my colleagues. When you connect to users and computers and view a gpo, an automatic process updates the adm files used by the gpo with those from your xp box!!! The logic is that you just won't be able to live without the new enhancements that the xp adm files will add - and the fact that you are connecting from XP means that there is at least one xp box on your domain. The new settings will only apply to xp boxes, and will be ignored by win2k clients. teh problem we has was that with the win2k adminpak there was no way of telling which settings were xp specific. i believe the 2003 adminpak shows which are which. Something to bear in mind though, using an xp box will update files on the server!!
